The Pharmaceutical Sciences Group (PSG) was founded in 1971 as an information forum for people working in the pharmaceutical industry. As no such general training organization existed, a group was started in Toronto with objectives and structure loosely modelled upon the British Chromatography Discussion Group. The first year's activities culminated in a day long Update Symposium. Considering the small nucleus of people involved and minimal resources available, the organization of a Symposium and its resounding success was a credit to the energy and enthusiasm of the organizers.
From that auspicious beginning, the Pharmaceutical Sciences Group has endured and grown and was formally incorporated in 1985 as the National Pharmaceutical Sciences Group Inc. The character of its membership, the emphasis of programs and the responses needed to meet changing needs have evolved over the past decades. Every year sees a broadening of Pharmaceutical Sciences Group programs. This is made imperative by the needs generated by over 3000 members in more than 400 companies. Member input is invited and encouraged. This ensures that programs and topics are relevant and timely.
The Pharmaceutical Sciences Group's mission statement, “Advancing the Professional Training and Development of our Members” is reflected in all the ongoing activities of the group.
The Pharmaceutical Sciences Group is a completely independent and self supporting organization. Members' duties and title span the range from technical assistants through managers to company presidents. There are no corporate memberships.
